Karpinski Engineering is providing commissioning services for the Eugene Tolloty Technology Center Incubator, the first building to be constructed in Kent State University’s Tuscarawas Technology Park. June 4 marked the groundbreaking for this 25,000-SF business/technology incubator, which will include approximately 15,000 SF of office, conference, and laboratory spaces, and will provide start-up space for research and development companies in the fields of information technology, computer animation, polymer research and development, biotech and nanotech research, and advanced materials research. Designed for a minimum LEED-Silver certification, the building will be subject to strict review standards for a quality-controlled, unified development. Construction is expected to be complete in April 2014.
Systems to be commissioned include HVAC and controls, domestic hot water, and lighting controls. Karpinski Engineering is involved in the design, construction, and post-occupancy phases of this project. Beginning the commissioning process early in the project helps to identify and resolve issues before they become costly to both the schedule and budget.
