Ohio Wesleyan University Earns LEED Silver Certification

DELAWARE, OH - (Tuesday, October 18, 2011) – Ohio Wesleyan University earns LEED Silver Certification for the new Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center. The project was completed in October 2010 and is the first LEED-certified building constructed on the OWU campus in Delaware, Ohio. Local engineer Karpinski Engineering was the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Technology (MEPT) and Lighting Design consultant for the 24,300 square foot new competitive swimming pool and recreation center for use by the local community and the Battling Bishop men’s and women’s swim teams at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The centerpiece of the building’s environmentally conscious design includes a geothermal HVAC and pool heating system. In addition, recycled, regionally produced low VOC emitting building materials were used, low-flow water faucets and fixtures were installed, and daylighting and
outside views from 90 percent of interior building spaces were designed with
Toledo based architect, The Collaborative, Inc.
