Spring 2010
The Results are In!
We would like to thank those of you who responded to our on-line client survey in November. The overwhelming majority of you appreciate the high level of quality that we demand of ourselves. But there seems to be an underlying tone that perhaps our Quality Assurance procedures may have slipped of late.
As a result of your input, Karpinski Engineering is embarking on a major revamping of our QA processes which even delves into our overall business philosophy. A major adjustment is coming and even though the development is very early we can assure you, our valued clients, that we have heard you and are doing something about your concerns.
Expect to see marked improvement in our already outstanding quality and perhaps even some changes to the way we do business. So Stay tuned for advancement and high(er) achievement!
Making a Difference in Our Community
This year’s Harvest for Hunger campaign raised a total of $6,777.77 to donate to the Foodbank which supplies a majority of the food used in local hot meal sites, shelters, and food pantries. With the current state of the economy, there are more people & families than ever that depend on the support of the community around them. Everyone at KE is very pleased with the success of this year’s campaign and we are proud to be able to serve the community in this way. And we would also like to thank you, our clients, for your valuable support of our efforts.
FirstEnergy LEED Gold
FirstEnergy has been awarded Gold Level certification by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, making its new West Akron Campus the largest office building in northeast Ohio to receive this highly prized designation and one of the largest such green office buildings in Ohio.
Karpinski Engineering provided MEPT design services for this substantial project. The project features a raised floor office environment – combination of modular furniture, demountable walls and permanent walls as well as an Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD) system to provide improved Indoor Air Quality and comfort maximization while minimizing the cost of CHURN. Sustainable design concepts included the use of an under floor air distribution (UFAD) system which provides improved ventilation for the occupants, individual temperature control, and lower energy consumption. Indoor air quality monitoring controls are used and during construction, efforts were taken to protect the UFAD plenum from contamination. Even though the building is designed with all-electric heating and cooling and contains significant amounts of perimeter glass, the building energy performance is expected to reduce energy use by more than 26% when compared to the ASHRAE 90.1 energy standards.
Continued Growth in Columbus
In an effort to better serve our clients project needs in Central Ohio, KE opened a branch office in Columbus, Ohio in July of 2007. The office, which started with two employees, has grown significantly in 2 ½ years and now boasts a staff of 15 talented professionals. Frank Eisenhower, PE, LEED AP is the Principal in Charge at our KE Columbus location. With Frank leading this very driven team they have accomplished quite an impressive portfolio including large Higher Education and Healthcare projects.
With such great success, it will be difficult to continue this trend. But the close-knit staff is very committed to our clients and focus on the quality of their projects. With this kind of commitment and determination, I’m sure that we will continue to see great things from KE Columbus.
